Waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge : This is a long term project: To photograph as many of the Waterfalls that I can get to on the Oregon side of the Columbia Gorge. The order of the photos in the Gallery is West to East. When several Falls exist on the Same Creek the order is North to South. If the Name of the Falls is a link then clicking on it will bring up all photos of those Falls on this website. Falls from the Washington side of the Gorge follow the Same pattern beginning after the Oregon Falls. Clicking on the Northwest Waterfall Survey link will bring up all the info you could ever wish for :^)... This is what we have so far, there is a long way to go!!

Waterfalls & Ice - December 2009 : After our coldest weather in over 10 years Chiyoko & I headed up the Columbia Gorge to check out some frozen waterfalls. I had to work until 12:00 so we only had 4 hours of daylight to play with. First we went to Mist Falls were we found 2 ice climbing groups. Next we headed on up to Horsetail falls & hiked the loop trail past Ponytail Falls, Middle Oneonta Falls & Triple Falls. My only regret was not taking the whole day off so that we would have had more time! 日本語

Saddle Mountain, Seaside & Mt. Hood - November 2009 : So Halloween 2009 was the second reunion of it's kind for ex Bourne Grammar School 1975 - 1980/82 Alumni Charles, Paul & Guy. Charles flew in from the UK & Paul from Denver. In our jam packed 2 days we hiked up Saddle Mountain, went to Cannon Beach and up to Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. A Trip to the Columbia Gorge - July 2009 : On Friday July 31st Chiyoko & I took Jane, Tim & Maddy on a tour of the Columbia Gorge. Way too much to see in one day so we hit some of the obligatory tourist spots like Multnomah Falls but also some of the almost unknown places like the trail to Mist Falls. We also stopped at Latourell Falls, Wahkeena Falls, Horsetail Falls, Ponytail Falls, Cascade Locks for Lunch and the Bonneville Dam Fish Hatchery in the afternoon to see Hermon the Surgeon.

Oneonta Gorge - July 2009 : So July 29th turned out to be the hottest day since 1981 with the temps ranging from 104 to 106 depending where you were. To try & escape some of the heat & our 93F living room we decided to go & show Jane, Tim & Maddy Oneonta Gorge. I kind of new going there on the hottest day in over 25 years that we wouldn't have the place to ourselves - well that was true, it seemed like half of Portland was there! Nevertheless it was a good 20 degrees or more cooler and walking up the gorge in the stream certainly cooled us down.

Strawberry Mountain Wilderness Trip - July 2009 : July 23rd 2009 we headed out with Jane, Tim & Maddy to Strawberry Mountain Wilderness for a few days. There we met up with Eric, Nancy & Scotty. Scotty's son Jason & grand kids Trent & Piper also joined us. Some hung out at Strawberry Lake for a couple of days while the others got two mountain hikes / scrambles in, first Slide Mountain then the following day Strawberry mountain. On the way home we stopped in Mitchell to seeHenry the Bear, the Painted Hills then took the 36 mile gravel back road to Ashwood before heading home via Maupin.

Seattle Trip - December 2009 : December 7th 2008 I had to go to Seattle to take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. So we decided to make a weekend of it & we went up on Saturday to do a bit of Christmas shopping & hang out at the Pike Street Market. Instead of driving directly to Seattle we drove up to Bremerton on the other side of the Puget Sound then took 60 minute ferry ride across the Sound to the downtown Seattle Ferry terminal.

Hood River & Lost Lake : After a Foggy start, Sunday turned into a lovely sunny Autumn day so we decided to take a drive up to Hood River, we stopped at the Big Horse Brew Pub for lunch then paid a visit to Kiyokawa Family Orchards. From there we drove on to Lost Lake, I hadn't been there in 20 years! From Lost Lake we took the single lane Lolo Pass road back to Zigzag on the west side of Mt. Hood, also a road I hadn't driven in about 20 years! The Big Leaf & Vine Maples provided us with a great display of Autumn colour along the way..

Though we have seen each other several times over the last 12 years it's been that long since we were all in the same place at the same time. We had a very wet & cold Saturday followed by a dry & sunny Sunday! When not talking about the past & what ever happened to Oh, you know who? we spent most of our free time in the Columbia Gorge. Oneonta Gorge - August 2001 : Oneonta Gorge is a great afternoon trip on a hot Summers day! About half a mile long getting narrower & narrower until you reach the waterfall at the end. To get to the waterfall you can take your chances on the rocks (about half the people who try fall into the waist deep water) or just take a deep breath and walk through the water anyway! We took Sister Jane on this trip.
