Dayville, Olympus Pen FT & Derev Pan 200
2021/04/27: On day II of our John Day Fossil Beds trip we headed out to the Blue Basin and the town of Dayville on highway 26 about 38 miles East of Mitchell. Dayville was named for the John Day River, in the 1870's Dayville was along the route of The Dalles Military Wagon Road that connected The Dalles on the Columbia River with gold mines near Canyon City. Dayville was incorporated in 1913.and today has a population of about 150 people. Unlike many of the other small towns we stopped in there aren’t many old buildings in the town with most of the activity happening around the Dayville Mercantile.
