Shaniko, Olympus Pen FT & Derev Pan 200
Originally the settlement of Cross Hollow the name was changed to Shaniko after an early settler August Scherneckau who opened a post office of that name in 1900. Thanks to the railway and along with the production of wool the early 1900's were boom times for the town. But when a faster rail line was built from Portland to Bend via the Deschutes River trade began to drop off until the town was almost abandoned by the 1980's. The town is dominated by the large hotel which operates seasonally as a B&B and the town has taken on a touristy feel.
