The World in Macro

My attempts at hand held Macro Photography with 2 vintage lenses. An SMC Pentax-M  50mm F4.0 and an Olympus Zuiko Auto-Macro 50mm F3.5

The SMC Pentax-M 50mm F4 Macro lens. From what I understand there are 4 versions of this lens going back to 1964. The first three bore the name Takumar and had metal bodies. (Macro Takumar 1964-66) (Super Macro Takumar 1966-71) (SMC Macro Takumar 1971-77). This 4th version bears the name Pentax and has a lighter plastic body and was made from 1977 to 1984 all were 4 element lenses. It's still sought after today as a great macro lens for digital photography and they go for around $100.00 or more on ebay, the earlier Takumar versions go for even more. Luckily I got mine in a “free bin”.

The “Olympus OM Zuiko Auto-Macro 1:3.5 f=50mm” introduced in 1973 was the first version of this lens, it was single coated. The second version “OM Zuiko MC Auto-Macro 1:3.5 f=50mm” followed and was multi coated. This third and final version is the “Olympus OM Zuiko Auto-Macro 50mm 1:3.5” Excellent build quality & style & is quite similar to the Pentax. I haven’t decided which of the two I prefer yet! Like the Pentax they go for around $100.00 on eBay but I got mine as an extra throw in lens with a camera purchase.
