NotesNamed for Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky the factory which arose from an orphanage labor commune in Kharkov (now Ukraine). From 1934 to 1955 they made the FED Camera which was a near direct copy of the German Leica II introduced just 2 years earlier in 1932. While there were many types of FED 1 the differences were minor over the 21 years of production. This camera is one of the last made, A Fed Type 1G made from 1953 to 1955, the serial number on this one dates it to 1954. After 1955 the factory started to make it’s own cameras that were not Leica copies and a whole line of FEDS followed.
